Here is the thing about TikTok trends though: some of what lands on your feed is great design, the kind that will look as beautiful in ten years as it does on your screen right now. Some of it is fast fashion for kitchens. It photographs brilliantly in a 15 second clip and dates faster than you would think. We have done the doom scrolling so you don’t have to. Here is our take on six of the biggest trends doing the rounds right now.
The trend: Curved and Sculptural Kitchen Islands
The curved island has taken over TikTok renovation content and it’s not hard to see why. Rounded stone edges, organic shapes, a cabinetry base that actually has some personality to it: after years of the rigid rectangular island owning every renovation video, the curve feels like a breath of fresh air.
This is one trend we think is built to last. A well-designed curved island is not a gimmick, it’s a beautiful piece of craftsmanship, and the more custom it becomes, the more personal and unique it gets. On a waterfall edge or a softly shaped breakfast bar, the stone can really show its character in a way a straight-edged benchtop simply cannot.

Our honest take: a kitchen is usually a fifteen-year commitment and the colours that feel exciting and fresh on your feed right now have a way of feeling very specific in five years. The tone of the moment becomes the thing you are living with every single day. Colour as an accent tends to age far more gracefully than colour as the whole story. If longevity is the goal, that is the one to keep in mind.

Checkerboard tile is a fun trend, it’s just not a forever floor if that’s what you’re after.
