Give Your Kitchen a Natural Summer Clean

Ah, summer. The days are getting warmer (though Perth is certainly took its time to warm up this year), the rain is a distant memory, and it’s time to start tackling those cleaning jobs in time for summer!   Okay, so cleaning your kitchen might not sound like the most exciting job in the world. We get that. However, the happiness you’ll feel from preparing and cooking food in a spotless kitchen will more than make up for this. Trust us!   To help you get started, we’ve come up with a few natural cleaning tips that will make your kitchen sparkle.

  • To clean your microwave, simply start by placing equal parts vinegar and hot water into a bowl, then microwaving on high for two minutes. The steam from the water/vinegar mix will loosen those stubborn stains (don’t ask what they are) at the top of the microwave, and make them so much easier to remove.
  • Do you have a nasty habit of leaving pans on the stovetop too long? If so, you’ll definitely love this trick! To remove burns from your pots and pans, simply place water and about 1 cup of white vinegar into the pan(s), and bring to the boil. Then, remove from the heat and add a few tablespoons of baking soda. Allow your bubbling, fizzy mixture to sit for at least five minutes before emptying and scrubbing the now loosened burn stain off with an abrasive cloth or sponge.
  • If your fridge is starting to smell decidedly funky, simply open a packet of bicarb soda and let it sit in your fridge to neutralise those dodgy smells.
  • Make your oven door look brand-new simply by using a lemon chunk to wipe those greasy stains away. An added bonus is that it smells great, too! You can also boil lemon halves inside your kettle for a fuss-free way to remove stubborn scale build-up.
  • Kitchen cabinets looking a little gunky? No problem! Simply give them a wipe with a cloth and a spray bottle containing one part dish detergent and two parts water. Too easy.
  • If your cast-iron pan is looking a little worse for wear, give it a new lease of life by rubbing it with a few tablespoons of salt and a paper towel, then rinsing with water. Don’t forget you’ll need to replenish the oil film afterwards – do this by adding a dab of cooking oil to the inside surface.
